Setting up Thunderbird in Windows

Unfortunately we can not guarantee that Thunderbird will be fully functional as a mail client when connecting to Mueller mail services.

For Windows or Mac users, please feel free to use the default Windows/Apple mail apps. For Linux users, please use the web app at email.muellerreports.com.

(1.) Open this link and click "Free Download" to download Mozilla Thunderbird

https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/

2. After the Thunderbird installer finishes downloading, click where it says "Thunderbird Setup" to begin installing

3. Hit Next

4. Choose "Custom", then check the box that says "Use Thunderbird as my default mail application"

5. Hit "Next"

6. This box is based on preference. Leaving this checked will let Thunderbird update in the background. Leaving it unchecked is the recommended option

7. These options are also preference. Checking the top box will create a desktop shortcut. The bottom box will create an icon in your Start Menu programs folder.

8. Hit "Install"

9. After installing, leave the box checked that says "Launch Mozilla Thunderbird now" and hit "Finish"

10. Under "Set up an account:" select "Email"

11. Fill in your name, email address, and password as shown. Leave the "Remember Password" box checked. Hit continue

12. Leave IMAP selected and hit "Manual Config"

13. The settings in this menu need to match what is shown in the following screenshot. Here are some notes for making sure that everything is filled out correctly:

  • Under "Server hostname", both should say "email.muellerreports.com" It defaults to saying mail instead of email.
  • For "Username:" Both incoming and outgoing will default to first.last. Incoming needs to be changed to first.last@muellerreports.com. This should automatically update the outgoing username to the same thing, but if it does not then make sure that the outgoing username is the same as the incoming username.
  • Port number for "Incoming" should say 993. Outgoing should say 587. If they default to other values, change them accordingly.
  • For incoming, SSL/TLS should have automatically populated after typing 993 into the incoming server port. For Outgoing, STARTTLS might have to manually be selected.
  • Under authentication, make sure both have "Normal password" selected.
  • Once you are confident that you have filled out all of the fields correctly, hit "Done."

14. If everything went correctly, your email address should show up here with an inbox shown underneath. Click where it says "Inbox".

15. You may have to hit the "Get Messages" button to sync your emails to thunderbird. If you see your emails pop up, everything is all set!
