If you need help with a specific thing like selecting which speaker is being, for example, you can scroll down the page until you find the instructions you are looking for. You do not need to read the entire article unless you like reading than by all means, read away.

Installing Teams

Teams is an application that is apart of the Office 365 suite and comes preinstalled on all Mueller Reports work stations and laptops. If you are using a personal laptop, desktop or phone, you can download Teams at this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/download-app

Once Teams is installed, you will need to log in using your Mueller Reports email and password associated with your email.

Once you are logged in lets, check to see if Teams is using the camera, microphone, and speaker you want to use.

Getting to your Devices Menu

The first step in this process is to get to your settings so you can check what devices are being used by Teams.

Step 1: In the top right corner of your Teams app, click on the icon that either has your name or your First and Last initial.

Step 2: After click that icon, you should see this, click settings.

Step 3: When you click settings, a settings window will open, and you now will need to click Devices.

You are now in the Devices menu, from this menu you can edit which devices are used by Teams.

Note: If you have a webcam, you should see a preview of what your Webcam sees where that black box is in the photo below.

Changing the Mic

Teams allow their users to select which microphone they want to use. This can be helpful for people who have a webcam that has a microphone and a stand-alone microphone—this way, the user can select which microphone is used by Teams.

Note: Users who have one microphone can only select that microphone.

In the image shown below, you will see the orange box surrounding the Microphone option in Teams. If there were more than one microphone plugged into the machine, there would be more options.

Changing the Speaker

Teams allow their users to select which speaker it would like to use. This does not limit users to using desk speakers; however, users can choose to use headphones if they wish.

In the image below, you will see the Speaker device surrounded by an orange circle. If there were more than one output device plugged into the machine, you would see more than one device being offered.

Changing The Webcam

Teams allow their users to change which camera is being used during video calls. If you have more than one camera plugged into your computer, Teams may not use the camera you prefer.

Note: Only one application can use your Webcam at any given time.

In the image below, you should see an orange box surrounding the Camera option. This is where you would go if you needed to check to see if your Webcam was working and check which camera Teams are using.

The black box below the orange box is blocking the camera preview.

Other

If you followed the instructions to a T and you're still having problems, there are few things you can do that can help solve some common issues.

No Microphone is detected:

  1. Webcam: If you use a laptop with a webcam, but you use an external webcam, you might run into the issue where the laptop device doesn't know which one to use. Try unplugging the external Webcam and then restarting your laptop device before plugging the external Webcam back in try and see if your Teams detects the laptop's internal microphone.

  2. Windows is not up to date: Sometimes, Windows updates can interfere with software. So in the bottom left of your laptop or workstation, click the Windows logo and then type "Check for Updates" and install any available updates. Once those updates have installed themselves, restart your computer so they can finish installing and check to see if that fixed your Team's microphone issues.

  3. External Microphone: If you are using a USB stand-alone microphone or a USB headset with a microphone, sometimes changing the USB port in which the microphone was plugged into will fix the issue. If this does not work, then go to the manufacturer's website and try to download the latest drivers for that model of microphone or headset.

  4. Surface Users with a Dock and external Webcam: If you are a Surface laptop user with a dock and an external webcam, but the Teams won't use your external Webcam, there is a fix for you (results may vary). If you unplug the Webcam from one USB port and plug it into another USB port, this can cause the driver for the Webcam to install itself, and then Team's could recognize the external Webcam now.

  5. Users with Speaker issues: The sound settings in Windows works by prioritizing a specific audio device, like a pair of USB desk speakers, for example. This device is your system's default audio device and changes based on what you want to use. So in the bottom right of your main display, you should see a speaker icon, if you right-click that icon and select "Open Sound Settings," this will bring you to the sound settings. Find the "Sound Control Panel" option on the right-hand side and open it. If you don't see your sound device under the "Playback" tab, you should try to right-click and "show disabled devices" this way you can reenable the equipment that was disabled.
